Cap of the week - SPECKLES

This week's cap of the week features a new release! - A new fabric: Wool & Speckles.

Traditionally so many caps are made from wool or tweed, but The Capalog hasn't released any caps made from wool yet & wool is a fabric that I have wanted to include for a long time. One of my fave kinds of wool is speckled wool, wool that has lots of multi-coloured speckles woven into the pattern.

You will notice speckles as a feature in a lot of tweeds and wool fabrics, but the really colourful ones always stick out to me. Sometimes known as flecked wool as well, speckled wool comes in lots of different patterns, block plain colour, as well as herringbone and lots of different colours too.

There are going to be multiple caps using speckled wool added to the collection, (cough flatcaps cough) and I am hoping it will be a regular feature each Autumn & Winter. So keep an eye out for it!

Each Autumn/Winter season I am hoping it will be a limited edition while fabric stocks last & I am currently mid talks with a sustainable fabric source in Donegal where all the fabric is woven.

As for the cap which is made from the speckled wool, we're starting with a cloche cap made from dark grey multi speckled wool. The cloche cap is a cap designed as a modern cap twist on the timeless felt cloche hat.

Cloche hats were pretty infamous in the 20s and 30s and get their distinctive shape from the crown & having an understated full rounded shape.  

The crown comes down over your ears and is snug and cosy & the speckled wool version has a charcoal denim band and peak which is a soft peak. The cloche cap is also lined with dark grey cotton lining, for extra winter warmth & also has a wee small denim button up on top of the cap.
