Last month The Capalog moved back into Salts Mill, at the Piazza Offices.
I had a studio here 4 years ago when I was mainly a theatrical milliner and was patterning caps as a part of that and when I was blocking more felt hats and hats with brims rather than sewing caps. The capalog was started here in July 2019 before I moved out in June/July the following year, 2020. We all know what happened that year.
The new space, complete with floating market suitcase. Still figuring out where some things live.
Operation is exactly as at Wharf St, all the caps are made here in weekly batches in a small little rectangular office with two beaut brick windows on a domestic bernina sewing machine.
Thread pegboards are life. These are mainly for the overlocker, not the sewing machine.
Like Wharf St, you can still order caps to be collected from here, and they can be collected every week. You will just need to get coffee from Giddy Arts across the road or from inside Salts Mill and have a mooch while you are at it.. That is not a hardship though.
The old space 4 yrs ago, look at that organised chaos.. I definitely needed a new phone from the camera quality going on here!
Salts Mill is right next to Saltaire train station, two stops out from Leeds or Bradford on the Skipton line. It is also one of the main reasons I originally moved to Saltaire, so if you haven't been, you really should. For the bookshop, the antiques centre, the art books, the art supplies, the exhibitions, the peace museum or just for the diner quite frankly. It is a an amazing place for a day trip..
